Thom Mayne's Personal Residence
In the quiet, traditional neighborhood of Cheviot Hills, Los Angeles, stands a home that defies suburban convention. This is the Alison-Mayne House, a deeply personal project by renowned architect Thom Mayne, Pritzker Prize winner and owner of Morphosis Architects.

The home's design inverts the topography, carving a lush, secluded landscape into the hillside and a journey through the home is a choreographed experience. The home's front entry is simply a Vitrocsa glass panel that slides wide open, dissolving the boundary between the interior and the verdant outdoors.

A bridge cantilevers over a sunken lap pool, leading to the main living area, where a glass-paneled facade slides wide open - a 40' series of panels.

This fluid transition between inside and outside is a core principle of the design - and iconic to many Goldbrecht designs.

The home's architecture is a testament to Morphosis's signature style - a fluid, open plan - defined by raw concrete floors, perforated metal screens, and expansive glass. And the Vitrocsa Invisible Wall systems are instrumental in this design, providing the ultra-slim profiles necessary to create seamless, floor-to-ceiling glass facades.
