Brownstone House
The refurbishment of a traditional NYC residence by Studio Arthur Casas is a compelling study in technological and aesthetic balance, providing a practical, modern solution while respecting the stately, historical character of the facade.

The standard Brownstone restricts natural lighting to the front and rear facades. So how might windows overcome this inherent darkness and create a contemporary, fluid environment across all vertical levels?
Unable to modify the protected street-facing facade, Studio Arthur Casas strategically retracted the floor slab on the second level's rear elevation. This created a wide, unified glazed opening where Vitrocsa fixed and sliding units allow light to cascade deep into the social areas, connecting the first-floor kitchen/office spaces with the second-floor living and dining rooms.
The Brownstone House is a testament to how meticulous design and precision intervention can elevate the quality of life within one of the city's most enduring typologies, creating a refuge that is both deeply rooted in history and perfectly oriented toward the future.
