Architectural Spotlight: Mecox Bay Residence in Water Mill, NY

When designing a modern waterfront estate on the edge of a sweeping tidal bay, architecture must establish a dynamic relationship with water and light. For the Mecox Bay Residence—a stunning contemporary masterpiece in Water Mill, NY, designed by the visionary architect Roger Ferris of Roger Ferris + Partners—the objective was to create a clean, linear sanctuary that maximizes expansive panoramic views while maintaining an intimate connection to the coastal landscape. We are proud that the Vitrocsa Invisible Wall by Goldbrecht (a minimalist fenestration system) was selected to anchor this highly sophisticated, transparent design.

Roger Ferris + Partners masterfully composed the residence to sit in perfect harmony with its ultra-private, 3-acre waterfront site, which features 270 feet of direct water frontage on Mecox Bay. The massive 11,000-square-foot main house features long, horizontal planes and deeply recessed facades, a structural strategy that shields the home from the elements while optimizing daylight.

Architectural Fluidity: The Vitrocsa Sliding Wall Systems

Connecting these expansive structural volumes to the changing tides of Mecox Bay required a glass solution that could eliminate visual barriers entirely. Traditional bulky window frames create harsh disruptions, interrupting the sightlines of a modern waterfront facade. By utilizing Vitrocsa's ultra-slim profiles, which feature a vertical sightline of just 3/4" (18mm), the architecture achieves an uncompromised, fluid connection between the refined interior spaces and the bay outside.

The home utilizes our core sliding configurations to deliver an elevated, open-air living experience:

- Vitrocsa Sliding Systems by Goldbrecht: The primary waterfront facades are wrapped in monumental, floor-to-ceiling sliding glass walls. These massive glass panels move with weightless precision on high-capacity internal rollers. This allows the homeowners to smoothly retract the glass, transforming the main living and dining spaces into expansive, open-air pavilions that connect directly to the outdoor decks, the 65-foot pool, and the surrounding natural dunescape.

When the sliding panels are open, the exterior overhangs protect the interior spaces, allowing natural ventilation from the bay breezes to flow through the home. The thin, anodized aluminum frames provide a clean, neutral outline that highlights the home's meticulous interior detailing and curated material palette without competing with the landscape.

High-Performance Engineering for Waterfront Environments

Beyond its elegant, minimalist aesthetic, a home situated directly on a tidal bay requires exceptional technical resilience. High-end coastal architecture demands absolute precision. The Vitrocsa systems implemented by Goldbrecht at the Mecox Bay Residence are masterfully engineered to deliver robust structural resistance against severe wind loads, salt spray, and intense weather conditions, ensuring flawless functionality and superior thermal efficiency year after year.

This project beautifully demonstrates Goldbrecht's dedication to pushing the limits of modern fenestration. By collaborating with elite design firms like Roger Ferris + Partners, we continue to dissolve structural barriers, transforming high-end residences into transparent lookouts that celebrate the natural world.
